Hachimanbori-meguri boat ride

株式会社和でん

Hachiman-bori has a long history and has been used as a filming location for movies and television dramas. Long ago, this canal was built by Toyotomi Hidetsugu (nephew of Toyotomi Hideyoshi) and connected to Lake Biwa, with boats carrying commercial goods traveling back and forth. It is a great place to enjoy the changing seasonal scenery: cherry blossoms in spring, willows in summer, autumn foliage in fall, and snowy landscapes in winter.
Please leisurely enjoy the peaceful and atmospheric scenery of Hachiman-bori, lined with white-walled storehouses, from aboard a traditional Japanese boat.

Point

The Hachiman-bori canal tour operates on a one-way route of approximately 1.5 km, and takes about 35 minutes. You can board without a reservation. The stretch from Meiji Bridge to Hakuun Bridge has served as a filming location for many period dramas including "Onihei Hanka-cho," "Hissatsu Shigotonin," and "Rurouni Kenshin," making it one of the highlights of the tour. Additionally, the floating bridge near the boarding area is a place that Emperor Showa once visited for inspection. We recommend taking commemorative photos on the bridge with Hachiman-bori in the background, and timing your shot for when a boat passes nearby.
